Oklahoma Mother Accused of Smothering Infant After Drinking 6-Pack and Rum: ‘If My Kid Is Dead, I Might As Well Be Too’

BIXBY, OKLAHOMA — A 31-year-old Oklahoma mother is facing child neglect charges after police say she accidentally smothered her 5-month-old son while sleeping on top of him after a night of heavy drinking.

The woman, identified as Sarah Jamison, allegedly drank a six-pack of Voodoo Ranger Juice Force beer and a shot of rum before falling asleep with her baby in bed on October 18.

Officers Find Infant Gray and Lifeless

According to a probable cause affidavit, officers arrived at Jamison’s home around 5:45 a.m. to find her baby gray, unresponsive, and not breathing.

Police said Jamison was still asleep when they entered the room and only woke up after two minutes of yelling and shaking.

“The smell of alcohol was overwhelming,” officers wrote in the affidavit.

The child’s father told investigators he came home from work around 10 p.m., drank with Jamison on the couch, and later went to bed — only to discover the baby under Jamison’s shoulder, not breathing.

He performed CPR and called 911, but the infant could not be revived.

Mother’s Disturbing Statements

When police confronted her, Jamison appeared intoxicated, slurring her words, and made heartbreaking comments about the tragedy.

“If my kid is dead, I might as well be too,” she allegedly said.
“I said I needed help. I tried to get help.”

Police noted that Jamison later admitted to drinking regularly since giving birth, telling investigators she suffered from postpartum depression and her mental health was worse than after her previous pregnancies.

Extreme Intoxication Confirmed

Roughly three hours after police arrived, Jamison’s blood alcohol level was measured at 0.309, nearly four times the legal limit for intoxication in Oklahoma.

Investigators concluded that her level of impairment contributed directly to the baby’s death, as she was too drunk to wake up or respond.

“The combination of alcohol use and unsafe sleep caused this tragedy,” police said.

Facing Charges and Arraignment

Jamison has been charged with child neglect in Tulsa County District Court. She is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, court records show.

Authorities said the case remains under investigation, and additional charges could be filed.
