Philadelphia Woman Wearing Scrubs Vanishes During Night Shift at Senior Living Facility After Complaining of Harassment, Police Say
PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA — Police are urgently searching for a 23-year-old Philadelphia woman who vanished during her night shift at a senior living facility — just days after telling family and friends she was being harassed by unknown individuals, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, Kada Scott was last seen around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday in the 8300 block of Rodney Street, wearing black scrubs. She was scheduled to work the overnight shift at The Terrace at Chestnut Hill, an assisted living facility where she had recently started employment.
‘Completely Out of Character,’ Police Say
Police Captain John Craig described Scott’s disappearance as “deeply troubling,” noting that it was “completely out of character” for her to stop communicating with her family.
“We have no cellphone activity, no social media activity, and no communication with friends or relatives,” Craig said during a press conference. “She has simply vanished.”
Craig confirmed that Scott left the facility shortly after arriving that night and was last seen on surveillance footage walking away from the building. Her car was found in the parking lot, and she has not been heard from since.
Family Desperate for Answers
Scott’s family reported her missing Sunday morning after she failed to return home following her shift.
Her mother, Kim Matthews, told WPVI-TV she’s been unable to sleep or eat since her daughter disappeared.
“I just need her to come home and be safe,” Matthews said. “That’s what I fear — she’s not safe.”
Her father, Kevin Scott, said the family has been distributing flyers and searching neighborhoods near the senior living facility.
“She’s my oldest daughter. I love her,” he told reporters. “These last few days have been crazy — trying to figure out what’s going on.”
Investigators Probe Reports of Harassment
Police revealed that Scott told family and friends in the days leading up to her disappearance that she had been receiving harassing phone calls from unknown individuals.
“We’re investigating that information and trying to learn more,” Captain Craig said. “It’s one of the key parts of this case.”
Authorities said coworkers at the facility were interviewed but offered “nothing out of the ordinary” regarding Scott’s behavior that night.
Investigators continue to analyze phone records, surveillance video, and digital footprints to trace her movements after she left work.
Community Urged to Help in Search
Posters featuring Scott’s photo have been placed around Philadelphia with the words “Missing” and “Please Share.”
Police are urging anyone who may have seen Scott or has information about her whereabouts to come forward immediately.
“If there are 100 pieces to a puzzle, you may think your piece is insignificant — but without it, the puzzle can’t be solved,” Craig said. “Whatever information you have, please reach out to us.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit at (215) 686-3183 or call 911.
