Riverton, Wyoming Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Fire Danger Tuesday, September 9

RIVERTON, Wyo. — Central Wyoming could see scattered thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon, paired with elevated fire danger as gusty winds raise risks along major routes, according to the National Weather Service in Riverton .

Thunderstorm Timing and Hazards

Forecasters said storms are most likely between noon and 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 9. While rainfall may remain light, hazards include lightning and sudden wind gusts up to 20 mph.

“Lightning and shifting winds could make driving hazardous along Highway 26,” the weather service warned.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary outdoor burning, as fire weather conditions are expected to stay elevated through midweek.

By Tuesday night, lingering showers are possible with lows near 50 degrees. Conditions turn breezy Wednesday, with highs around 87 and wind gusts up to 25 mph.

“This unsettled pattern is expected to continue through Thursday, with scattered storms possible each evening,” officials noted.

A more significant shift arrives Friday, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms. The system could provide much-needed rainfall but will also likely slow weekend travel along I-80 and rural highways.
