Roblox Faces Criminal Investigation in Florida and Wrongful Death Lawsuit in Kentucky Over Child Safety Failures

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY / TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA — Popular online gaming platform Roblox is under criminal investigation in Florida and facing a wrongful death lawsuit in Kentucky, as state authorities and victims’ families accuse the company of failing to protect minors from grooming, exploitation, and extremist content.

The new lawsuit, filed by Anapol Weiss on behalf of a Kentucky mother, follows the suicide of her 13-year-old daughter, who was allegedly subjected to months of manipulation and extremist grooming through Roblox and Discord.

Meanwhile, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced his office has issued criminal subpoenas to Roblox Corporation, citing concerns of systemic negligence and child endangerment across the platform.

Kentucky Lawsuit Alleges Roblox Enabled ‘Months of Grooming and Violence Glorification’

According to court filings, the Kentucky case accuses Roblox Corporation of allowing adults to target and exploit vulnerable minors in online communities that glorified mass violence and sexual manipulation.

Lawyers allege the victim was exposed to users promoting mass shootings like Columbine and that Roblox’s safety protocols failed to block predators and violent content.

“Roblox has established a pattern of corporate disregard for child safety,” said attorneys from Anapol Weiss. “This child was manipulated for months by predators hiding behind Roblox’s false safety assurances.”

The wrongful death complaint seeks damages, medical cost coverage, attorney fees, and a jury trial. It marks the 12th lawsuit filed by Anapol Weiss against Roblox for similar allegations.

Florida Launches Criminal Probe Into Roblox’s Handling of Child Exploitation

Florida’s Attorney General James Uthmeier confirmed the launch of a criminal investigation into Roblox, accusing the company of “profiting off of our kids while exposing them to the most dangerous of harms.”

Uthmeier said subpoenas were sent to Roblox Corp. demanding internal data on:

  • Age verification practices
  • Failure to report child victimization
  • Inadequate content moderation
  • Weak enforcement of grooming and exploitation policies

“Roblox has enabled our kids to be abused,” Uthmeier said in a public statement. “We will gather every piece of evidence necessary to hold the company accountable.”

At this time, Roblox has not been formally charged, but prosecutors say the investigation will determine whether the company’s actions — or lack thereof — constitute criminal negligence.

Pattern of Safety Complaints and Growing Legal Pressure

The latest developments come amid a wave of state-level lawsuits and regulatory scrutiny against Roblox. Over the past year, Louisiana and California have also pursued cases accusing the company of failing to protect minors from sexual predators and harmful content.

Consumer groups and parents have long criticized Roblox’s inconsistent moderation system, with several investigations exposing communities promoting violence, extremist ideologies, and sexualized content accessible to minors.

Roblox’s Public Response and Ongoing Backlash

While Roblox Corp. has not issued a direct statement regarding the Kentucky and Florida actions, the company has repeatedly insisted that it enforces strict child safety protocols and is “committed to continuous improvement.”

Still, critics argue those promises ring hollow given the recurring allegations and ongoing lawsuits nationwide.

Industry observers say the investigations could reshape regulatory oversight in the gaming sector, particularly for platforms with underage user bases and in-game economies.
