Rockford Shooting Leaves 21-Year-Old Man Dead; Two Suspects Charged With Murder

ROCKFORD, Ill. — A 21-year-old man was shot and killed late Sunday night in Rockford, leading to first-degree murder charges against two local suspects, according to the Rockford Police Department.

Details of the Shooting

Officers were dispatched around 11:10 p.m. Sunday to the intersection of Charles Street and 11th Street after reports of gunfire. The victim was found inside his vehicle at the Stop-N-Go parking lot at 2211 Charles Street, suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was transported to a local hospital but later died from his injuries. His identity has not been publicly released.

Suspects Identified and Charged

Detectives with the Rockford Police Gang Unit identified Ladavion Crawford, 18, and Madison Shackleford, 20, both of Rockford, as suspects. After reviewing the evidence, the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized charges of first-degree murder against both individuals.

Crawford and Shackleford were taken into custody and booked into the Winnebago County Jail.

Police Statement and Community Appeal

“I want to recognize the quick and diligent work of our team in response to last night’s murder on Charles Street,” Police Chief Carla Redd said in a statement. “They demonstrated professionalism and acted without delay in their response, which allowed us to move the investigation forward immediately.”

Authorities stressed that the charges are merely accusations and that both suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
