San Antonio Business Owner Relieved After Suspect Arrested in Medical Center Vandalism

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — A San Antonio business owner says he is relieved after police arrested the man accused of vandalizing businesses in the Medical Center area, ending months of damage and concern.
Authorities identified the suspect as German Hernandez Estrada, 42, who was booked into the Bexar County Jail on a charge of criminal mischief with bond set at $25,000.
Suspect Connected to Multiple Incidents
Investigators said Estrada is believed to be the same man who threw a rock through a window on the UT Health San Antonio campus earlier this week, prompting false reports of a possible active shooter.
While those alarms were later confirmed to be unfounded, the incident added to growing concern in the area, where businesses had been targeted for months. Police have since linked Estrada to both cases.
Business Owner’s Relief
Renee Correa, owner of Bexar Care Home Medical Equipment & Supply on John Smith Drive, said he provided surveillance footage to police showing his windows being smashed.
Correa credited KSAT’s reporting, which circulated Estrada’s photo, for helping authorities track him down. “I got a text about 4:30 a.m. today, and it stated that they had arrested him and that they had got him,” Correa said. “It’s a relief. Hopefully there won’t be any more broken windows, and I just hope he gets the help he needs.”
Correa added that he has spent thousands of dollars replacing windows over the past six months, but said the larger concern was the panic Estrada caused on the UT Health campus. “They thought it was an active shooter and come to find out it was a guy throwing rocks in the windows. But I can imagine how scared the people were there,” he explained.
Community Impact
Local business owners expressed gratitude that the vandalism spree may finally be over. Police continue to investigate whether Estrada could be tied to additional incidents in the Medical Center area.
