Southwest Missouri Weather: Temperatures Near 90s by Midweek With Dry Pattern Holding

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A stretch of bone-dry weather is gripping southwest Missouri this week, with daily highs expected to reach the 90s by Wednesday and no measurable rain forecast through Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Springfield.
High Pressure Brings Summer-Like Heat
Meteorologists say a high-pressure dome will settle over the central U.S., pushing temperatures from the mid-80s Monday into the upper 90s by Thursday and Friday.
“Areas including Branson, Joplin, and Rolla could feel heat index values approaching triple digits, especially during peak afternoon hours,” forecasters warned.
The extended heat comes with limited cloud cover and low dew points, keeping afternoons hot and dry across the region.
Risks for Outdoor Workers and Fire Spread
Officials cautioned that outdoor workers and vulnerable groups should prepare for near-record afternoon heat this week.
“Drivers should never leave children or pets in parked cars — interior temperatures could top 120°F in minutes,” the weather service emphasized.
With dry air in place, wildfire risks also increase. Authorities are urging residents in rural areas to avoid outdoor burning as conditions could allow flames to spread quickly.
