Suspect Driver Critically Injured After Police Chase Ends in Huntington County Crash

HUNTINGTON, Indiana — A suspect driver is in critical condition after crashing a vehicle during a police pursuit with Indiana State Police (ISP) in Huntington County early Sunday morning.

High-Speed Pursuit Begins in Whitley County

Around 6:20 a.m., ISP troopers attempted a traffic stop on a white Mercedes spotted traveling at high speed along State Road 9 near State Road 14 in Whitley County.

Dispatchers had just broadcast a call about a white passenger vehicle fleeing a home in Columbia City, where a suspect was reportedly caught trying to break into a car before taking off.

When troopers attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver accelerated and fled southbound.

Crash on Meridian Road

The pursuit continued into Huntington County, where the Mercedes turned onto County Road 200 East (Meridian Road).

At one point, the driver turned off the car’s lights in an attempt to evade police. Moments later, the vehicle left the road near State Road 114, striking a utility pole.

The crash knocked down several poles and left the vehicle destroyed. No other vehicles were involved.

Driver Hospitalized in Critical Condition

Troopers found the Mercedes crashed south of State Road 114 with its driver severely injured. The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was the only occupant of the vehicle.

They were transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

The Indiana State Police Major Crash Investigation Unit is handling the case, and no further details about the suspect have been made available.
