Suspected Drunk Driver Killed After Missouri Trooper Uses Tactical Maneuver on I-35

CLAY COUNTY, Missouri — A suspected drunk driver was killed early Saturday after a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper used a tactical maneuver to end a chase on Interstate 35, authorities confirmed.
Chase Begins on I-35
According to the Highway Patrol, the incident began around 1:20 a.m. on August 30, when a trooper observed a silver Chevrolet Tahoe swerving out of its lane and nearly striking a guardrail multiple times while headed north on I-35.
The trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over and accelerated away.
Tactical Vehicle Intervention Used
As the pursuit continued near Brighton Avenue, the trooper deployed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI) maneuver to end the chase.
The Tahoe veered off the roadway into a ditch, rolled over, and came to a stop. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation Underway
The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control is investigating the trooper’s use of force, while the agency’s Major Crash Investigation Unit is reviewing the circumstances of the rollover.
Authorities have not released the driver’s identity but confirmed that next of kin have been notified.
This fatal crash highlights the dangers of both impaired driving and high-speed pursuits. Officials urge drivers to never drive under the influence and to comply with traffic stops to prevent tragedies on Missouri highways.
