Tallahassee Weather Alert: 50% Thunderstorm Chance Monday Could Bring Travel Delays

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – Residents in the Florida Panhandle should prepare for a stormy start to the week, as forecasters call for a 50% chance of thunderstorms Monday afternoon, raising the risk of slower commutes and outdoor event disruptions.

Storm Chances Increase Monday

The National Weather Service in Tallahassee says that while Sunday will bring partly sunny skies and highs near 94°F, scattered storms will begin developing late in the day. By Monday, conditions grow more unstable, leading to a greater risk of afternoon and evening thunderstorms, especially across Leon, Gadsden, and Wakulla counties.

Winds will remain light but shift northeast by Monday, a factor expected to fuel storm development.

Travel and Safety Concerns

Localized downpours could create slowdowns on I-10 and U.S. 319 during the late-day commute. Brief lightning strikes may also disrupt outdoor activities, including school sports, concerts, and other evening events.

“When storms roll in during rush hour, even short bursts of rain can create dangerous driving conditions,” officials advised, urging residents to monitor alerts closely.

Extended Forecast

After Monday’s storms, unsettled weather will linger into midweek. Storm chances hold at 30–40% Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs easing back into the mid-to-upper 80s. Rain may briefly ease late in the week before another round of storms possibly develops heading into next weekend.
