Terrifying Escape: Toddler Falls From 2nd-Story Window After Being Locked In Bedroom in West Virginia

FAIRMONT, West Virginia — A 3-year-old girl was found wandering along a busy main road after falling from a second-story window, and police say the child had been locked inside her bedroom for hours. Two adults are now facing child neglect charges in the disturbing case.

How the Incident Happened

According to the Fairmont Police Department, Victoria Frampton, 23, and Anthony Grogg, 22, were caring for the child on September 17 when they placed a child lock on the inside of her bedroom door to stop her from leaving.

Police say the toddler was left alone in the room for two hours without supervision, a baby monitor, or a camera. Growing distressed, the girl allegedly removed her mattress and used it to reach and push open the upstairs window.

Security footage captured the shocking scene of the child dangling from the roof before falling nearly 10 feet onto a gravel bed. Despite appearing in pain, the child got up and walked away toward the nearby road.

Roughly 45 minutes later, a neighbor spotted the toddler walking beside a main road with heavy traffic and called police. The neighbor also tried contacting Frampton and Grogg but couldn’t reach them.

Even after officers arrived, both adults were unreachable for nearly an hour. Eventually, police entered the home through the open window and confronted the pair, who admitted they were unaware the child had escaped.

Arrest and Charges

Frampton and Grogg were taken into custody and charged with gross child neglect creating a substantial risk of death or serious injury. They remain in the North Central Regional Jail on a $200,012 bond each.

The child survived the fall without life-threatening injuries, but officials noted the situation could have ended tragically.
