Texas Family Expecting First Baby Girl After 108 Years of Only Boys

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — A Texas family is celebrating a historic moment after learning they are expecting their first baby girl in 108 years, ending more than a century-long streak of only boys, according to KCBD.
A Century-Long Streak Ends
For generations, the Sherman family has only welcomed boys. That changed on Sunday when firefighter Michael Sherman Jr. and his wife, Joacquia Sherman, revealed they are expecting a baby girl due in March 2026.
“I just feel honored that finally, we are the ones bringing the baby girl into the world – finally, after over 100 years. It’s amazing,” Michael Jr. said.
Generations of Boys Before Her
The Sherman family says the last girl born into the family was Orah Belle Sherman in 1917, the great-great aunt of the soon-to-be father.
Michael Sherman Sr., the baby’s grandfather, explained: “It’s like a monumental thing. I have three boys. My dad had two boys. His brother had two boys. So, it’s never been nothing but boys, boys, boys.”
Family matriarch Lydia Robertson recalled Orah Belle’s life as a trailblazer in Atlanta, where she was active in the civil rights movement and left an enduring legacy.
Looking Ahead to the Future
The Shermans say they are eager to see what the newest family member will accomplish. “I love her. No matter what path she chooses, we will be with her. She’s going to always have support here for us,” Robertson said.
The baby girl will join her 5-year-old brother, Mekhai, who is excited to welcome his new sibling. Grandmother Chantene Newman added: “She’s going to know that she made history in the Sherman family.”
Record-Breaking Possibility
The family is even exploring whether their 108-year streak of boys could qualify as a Guinness World Record, adding another layer of celebration to the rare milestone.
The Sherman family’s upcoming arrival marks not only a personal joy but also a symbolic moment ending a remarkable family streak. For more uplifting community stories and family milestones, keep following ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
