Texas Man Arrested After Three-Hour SWAT Standoff at Austin Apartment Near Lakeline Boulevard
AUSTIN, TEXAS — A tense three-hour SWAT standoff unfolded Wednesday at an apartment complex in northwest Austin after a man with a felony warrant for family violence barricaded himself inside his ex-girlfriend’s home and threatened to blow up the building.
According to the Austin Police Department (APD), the incident began just after 11 a.m. at the Bridge at Avery Ranch Apartments in the 9200 block of North Lake Creek Parkway, near Lakeline Boulevard.
Police said a woman called 911 after spotting her ex-boyfriend breaking into her apartment via her security camera feed. Fortunately, she was not home at the time.

Responding officers quickly learned that the suspect already had an active felony warrant for family violence by strangulation involving the same woman.
When police arrived at the scene, they made contact with the man inside the unit. APD officials said he began acting erratically, refused to exit, and barricaded himself inside the apartment while making threats to “blow up the building.”
As a precaution, police evacuated nearby residents and established a perimeter around the complex.
SWAT Team Deployed, Residents Evacuated
The situation escalated, prompting APD to deploy its Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit to handle the standoff.
Negotiators spent nearly three hours attempting to de-escalate the confrontation while SWAT officers surrounded the building. Witnesses reported seeing armored vehicles and tactical units taking positions outside the apartment.
At one point, SWAT officers used a distraction device to safely gain control of the situation. Shortly after, the suspect surrendered peacefully to officers without further incident.
Suspect Arrested, No Injuries Reported
The man was taken into custody and booked into the Williamson County Jail on the outstanding family violence warrant. Police have not yet released his name.
Authorities confirmed that no one was injured during the standoff and that no explosives were found inside the apartment.
“This was an isolated incident,” the Austin Police Department said in a statement. “There is no ongoing threat to residents or the community.”
Community Shaken But Relieved
Residents of the Avery Ranch area described a heavy police presence throughout the afternoon, with many forced to evacuate or shelter in place.
“It was terrifying seeing SWAT trucks outside and hearing the loudspeaker,” said one neighbor. “I’m just glad it ended safely.”
The Austin Police Department praised its SWAT and crisis negotiation teams for their swift, coordinated response.
