Texas Man Gets Life Sentence for Driving Seven Hours to Kill Wife After Believing She Cheated, Investigators Say
COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS — A Texas man who drove seven hours to confront his wife because he believed she was having an affair has been sentenced to life in prison for a killing prosecutors described as one of the most brutal domestic violence cases in recent memory. Investigators say the victim begged for her life as she was stabbed repeatedly with scissors.
Husband Drove Hours Before Strangling and Stabbing Wife More Than 30 Times
According to the College Station Police Department, 47-year-old Brian Alan Jutson Sr. admitted he left his job in West Texas in 2023 and drove directly to his home on Renee Lane, convinced his wife, Sherry Shugart Jutson, was cheating.
Court documents say Jutson entered the home, confronted Sherry, and launched a violent attack. He told investigators he strangled her and then stabbed her over 30 times with a pair of scissors.
First responders found Sherry dead in the bedroom, suffering from multiple deep stab wounds.
Jutson later admitted that after killing her, he showered to wash off the blood before fleeing the scene.
Daughter Called 911 After Father Confessed
According to newly released documents, the first 911 call came from Jutson’s daughter, who told dispatchers her father had called her and said:
“I think I might have killed her.”
Court records show Jutson confessed during his police interview and provided disturbing details about the attack. He said he remembered his wife pleading:
“Baby, I love you please stop. I’m dying.”
Despite this, investigators say Jutson continued the assault until she was unresponsive.
He was arrested later with help from multiple agencies.
Prosecutors Presented Messages Showing Obsession and Jealousy
Although Jutson pleaded guilty to murder earlier this week, prosecutors still presented extensive evidence during sentencing.
This included:
- Messages showing Jutson’s growing obsession with an unproven affair
- Testimony from investigators describing Sherry’s injuries
- Evidence of the prolonged, violent struggle in the bedroom
Judge Kyle Hawthorne sentenced Jutson to life in a Texas state correctional facility, saying the level of violence and premeditation warranted the maximum punishment.
Sherry’s loved ones described her as a caring woman whose life was stolen in a moment of unchecked rage and paranoia.
A Community Mourns a Life Lost to Domestic Violence
The case has shaken the College Station community, not only because of the brutality but because Sherry reportedly showed no signs of the affair her husband imagined. Family members said she did not deserve what happened to her.
Her memory has been honored online, with loved ones calling her a devoted family member whose life was cut short by jealousy and violence.
Domestic violence continues to devastate families across the country, and stories like Sherry’s highlight the urgent need for awareness and support. For more community stories, important updates, and human-centered coverage, stay connected with ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
