Texas Mom Accused of Drugging Children With NyQuil Before Trying to Drown Them in Pond, Police Say
LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas — A Texas mother is under investigation after allegedly drugging her three children with NyQuil and attempting to drown them in a pond near the family’s home early Monday morning, according to the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office.
Father’s 911 Call
Deputies were dispatched just before 6 a.m. when the children’s father called 911, claiming his wife had poisoned their children with NyQuil and was trying to drown them in a nearby lake.
The family’s home, located about 75 to 100 feet from the water, became the center of a frantic rescue after the father reported hearing his children screaming in the yard. He managed to pull his three children from the water before deputies arrived, later telling dispatchers he was “trying to get away from the wife.”
Children and Mother Rushed to Hospital
Authorities confirmed the children — a 15-year-old girl, an 11-year-old girl, and a 6-year-old boy — all survived the incident.
The 11-year-old and the mother were both listed in critical condition, while the 15-year-old and 6-year-old were stabilized. Deputies reported that when they arrived, the mother was still in the water, unconscious and not breathing, while her daughter had just regained consciousness after being pulled out.
NyQuil Allegations Under Investigation
Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Capt. David Meyers said investigators are reviewing whether the children were given NyQuil or another substance, but that detail has not yet been confirmed.
The father told dispatchers he believed the children had been poisoned before the drowning attempt. Authorities are awaiting toxicology results and hospital updates.
Ongoing Investigation
Officials said the children were not currently enrolled in school and the family had lived at the home since 2017. Child Protective Services and hospital social workers are now working with the sheriff’s office.
Both parents are under investigation, though police stressed that no charges have been filed yet. Meyers added that the father has been cooperative with detectives.
The incident is still being treated as a “tragic event” as investigators weigh whether attempted murder charges may apply. For ongoing coverage of this developing case and other Texas crime updates, follow ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
