Texas Mom Arrested After Nonverbal 11-Year-Old Son With Autism Found Weighing Only 46 Pounds in Filthy Bedroom

BAYTOWN, TEXAS — A Texas mother is facing felony charges after her 11-year-old nonverbal son with autism was discovered malnourished, living in filth, and locked inside a soiled bedroom, authorities said.
40-year-old Rachel Nicole Blaylock was arrested and charged with injury to a child after police found her son weighing just 46 pounds, with feces caked under his fingernails and signs of severe neglect, according to the Baytown Police Department.
Disturbing Discovery During Welfare Check
The case began on May 13, when police received an urgent welfare call about a child living in dangerous conditions at a home on Homan Street in Baytown, near Houston.
When officers arrived, Blaylock allowed them inside — and the responding officer was immediately overwhelmed by the stench of feces and filth throughout the house.
“The smell was so bad she nearly threw up,” investigators wrote in the affidavit.
Flies swarmed through the rooms, and the child’s bedroom was reportedly smeared with fecal matter. Blaylock told officers that her son “wouldn’t use the toilet” and “threw feces around.”
The boy’s fingernails were packed with waste, and police found that his bedroom door was a locked screen door that prevented him from leaving.
Mother Refused to Seek Medical Help
Authorities said Child Protective Services (CPS) had previously told Blaylock to take her son to a hospital due to his alarming weight and condition — but she refused, reportedly mocking the recommendation.
“I can’t just drop everything I’m f—ing doing and take him to the hospital so a quack a— doctor can say, ‘oh, I don’t know what’s wrong with him,’” Blaylock allegedly said.
Her mother, who also lived on the property, was blunt when questioned by officers, saying,
“She is not a good mom.”
The grandmother told investigators that Blaylock would yell “shut up” at her son, make him sleep on a bare mattress, and use food stamps meant for the child on herself and her boyfriend.
Child Hospitalized With Severe Autism and Dental Decay
Paramedics transported the boy to a nearby hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with severe autism and extreme malnutrition. Medical staff also reported “extensive dental decay” and raised concerns about possible sexual abuse, according to police.
Blaylock was arrested on October 3 and booked into the Harris County Jail. She remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
Cases like this highlight the urgent need for community awareness and timely intervention in suspected child neglect situations.
