Three Shot During Balloon Release Gathering in Dolton, Illinois

DOLTON, Ill. — A balloon release meant to honor a loved one turned violent Tuesday evening when three people were shot in Dolton, according to CBS Chicago.

The incident happened in the 15100 block of Cornell Avenue, where community members had gathered for a balloon release.
A village spokesperson said witnesses reported that a person hiding in nearby bushes stepped out and opened fire on the crowd just before the balloons were released.
Victims Hospitalized
Three people were struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital. Authorities confirmed all suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have not released the victims’ ages or genders.
Investigation Underway
Initial reports described the attack as a drive-by shooting, but officials later clarified that it was not drive-by related.
As of Tuesday night, no arrests had been made. Detectives continue to investigate and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
