Tinley Park’s Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre Races to Repair Storm-Damaged Roof Before Lynyrd Skynyrd Concert Saturday After Derecho Hit the Chicago Area
TINLEY PARK, IL — Officials at Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in Tinley Park are working to get the venue ready for a scheduled Saturday concert after severe weather damaged the roof earlier this week.
The damage came as a powerful derecho swept through the Chicago area Tuesday morning, bringing destructive wind gusts and multiple tornadoes. Aerial video from NBC’s Sky 5 showed debris scattered across the lawn and other parts of the complex.
Storm damage spreads across the amphitheatre complex
The venue said it suffered roof damage, with materials blown across the property in the storm’s aftermath. The amphitheatre’s Facebook post said crews were actively making repairs and that the show remained on track for now.
Lynyrd Skynyrd is scheduled to perform Saturday, and the venue said ticket holders will be contacted directly by email and text if plans change.
A tornado and damaging winds hit Tinley Park
Tuesday’s storm system included an EF-1 tornado that began in Will County and tracked more than 25 miles into northwest Indiana. According to the National Weather Service, it brought wind speeds of around 95 miles per hour.
In Tinley Park, the tornado caused damage to numerous structures along 183rd Street. Straight-line winds in the area were also reported at nearly 100 miles per hour, and the tornado later moved through Country Club Hills and Flossmoor before dissipating in Lake County, Indiana.
More severe weather repairs could shape the weekend
The amphitheatre’s immediate goal is to finish repairs in time for Saturday’s concert. Officials have not publicly announced a cancellation, and the venue said its current plan is to proceed as scheduled.
The storm also left a wider mark on the region, with NBC Chicago reporting that more than 1,200 structures were damaged in Tuesday’s weather.
