Two Women Arrested in Wilmington Meth Bust, Over a Pound of Drugs Seized

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE — A months-long investigation has led to the arrest of two women and the seizure of more than a pound of methamphetamine in New Castle County, according to Delaware State Police.
Authorities identified the suspects as 26-year-old Jamiyah Dennis of Boothwyn, Pennsylvania, and 19-year-old Kaliyah Barnes of Newark, Delaware. Both were taken into custody on September 8 in Wilmington during a multi-agency operation coordinated by the Troop 2 Drug Task Force.
Investigation and Arrests
Investigators said Dennis had allegedly conducted multiple methamphetamine sales totaling about 310 grams over several months. Police obtained an arrest warrant earlier in September and located her in the 100 block of West 41st Street in Wilmington.
When officers attempted to detain her, Dennis allegedly fled on foot, resisted arrest, and even kicked a trooper while being placed in a patrol car. A search revealed she was carrying a bag with approximately 456 grams (one pound) of methamphetamine.
Shortly afterward, officers stopped a Chevrolet Traverse allegedly driven by Barnes. She was taken into custody without incident and is accused of helping transport Dennis while she was in possession of illegal drugs.
Charges and Detention
Both women were transported to Troop 2 for booking. Dennis was charged with multiple felony drug offenses and committed to the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $212,000 cash bond. Details regarding Barnes’ arraignment were not immediately available.
Law Enforcement Statement
Delaware State Police highlighted the role of inter-agency cooperation in the successful operation. Officials encouraged residents to report suspicious activity and emphasized the importance of community vigilance in dismantling narcotics networks.
Community Impact and Ongoing Investigation
The seizure removed a substantial quantity of methamphetamine from circulation, potentially preventing further harm to Wilmington residents. Officials noted the operation is part of a broader effort to combat both the opioid crisis and rising meth use in Delaware.
Authorities confirmed the case remains under investigation, with additional charges or arrests possible as detectives continue gathering evidence.
