UK Student and STUNT Team Member Charged After Infant Found Dead in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Kentucky — A 21-year-old University of Kentucky student has been arrested in connection with the death of an infant, according to the Lexington Police Department.

The student, identified as Laken Snelling, faces charges of concealing the birth of an infant, tampering with physical evidence, and abuse of a corpse【image†source】.

Arrest and Charges

Police responded to a call around 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 27 about an unresponsive infant in the 400 block of Park Avenue. The child was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Court records show Snelling’s bond was set at $100,000 on Sept. 1. She is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 2.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office has not yet determined the infant’s cause of death.

University Confirms Student Status

University spokesperson Whitney Siddiqi confirmed that Snelling is a senior at UK and a member of the STUNT Team, a competitive athletic program at the university.

In an arrest report, Snelling told officers that she had recently given birth to the infant. She is currently being held at the Fayette County Detention Center【image†source】.

The case remains under investigation as police and medical examiners work to determine how the child died.
