Victim Identified in Drowning at Ferguson’s January-Wabash Park Lake

FERGUSON, Missouri — Authorities have identified the man who drowned this week at January-Wabash Park Lake as 39-year-old Joseph Miles of Overland, according to the Ferguson Police Department.

Search Stretched Into Next Morning

Police said the initial call for a person in the water came in around 9 p.m. Tuesday. The St. Louis County Dive Team searched for more than three hours that night before suspending operations due to deteriorating conditions.

Crews resumed the search Wednesday morning, and at approximately 11:30 a.m., divers recovered Miles’ body from the lake.

Park Closed During Recovery

The Ferguson Police Department announced that January-Wabash Park would remain closed until further notice as investigators completed recovery efforts and assessed the scene.
