Wichita Man Sentenced to Over 14 Years in Prison for Sex Crimes Involving 14-Year-Old Runaway from Kentucky
WICHITA, KANSAS — A 22-year-old Wichita man has been sentenced to more than 14 years in prison for multiple sex crimes involving a teenage runaway from Kentucky, prosecutors confirmed on Friday.
Samuel Loredo was convicted on several charges, including criminal sodomy, indecent liberties with a child, aggravated interference with parental custody, and sexual exploitation of a child, according to the Sedgwick County District Court.
Judge officials handed down a 174-month sentence — equivalent to 14 years and six months — after determining that some of Loredo’s counts would run consecutively.
Case Began with Kentucky Teen’s Disappearance
The case began on Nov. 18, 2024, when authorities in Murray, Kentucky, alerted Wichita police that a 14-year-old runaway was believed to be communicating with Loredo.
Investigators tracked Loredo to a residence in the 2300 block of North Woodland Avenue, where he was arrested later that evening. The next morning, officers located the missing girl wandering nearby in the same area.
Police said the teen had traveled to Wichita after allegedly arranging the trip with Loredo.
Guilty Pleas and Sentencing
Loredo pleaded guilty last month to criminal sodomy and sexual exploitation of a child. Prosecutors said his conviction reflects the severity of his crimes, which involved deliberate efforts to exploit a vulnerable teen.
Under Kansas law, Loredo will serve his sentence in state prison, followed by post-release supervision and mandatory sex offender registration.
Law Enforcement Coordination Across States
Authorities credited cross-state collaboration between Kentucky and Kansas law enforcement for helping locate the missing teen and bring Loredo to justice.
The Wichita Police Department worked with Murray Police in Kentucky and the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office to investigate and prosecute the case.
Officials said the case serves as a reminder of the dangers of online communication between minors and adults, emphasizing the need for vigilance among parents and guardians.
