Will County Police Warn Students After Ridge Road Hit-and-Run During Minooka High Homecoming

CHANNAHON, Illinois — Police in Will County are urging students and families to celebrate responsibly after a series of incidents — including a hit-and-run on Ridge Road — disrupted the opening night of Minooka Community High School’s Homecoming Week.

Reports of Property Damage and Reckless Behavior

According to the Channahon Police Department, the first reports came in Monday evening when residents said lighting fixtures at a home were destroyed.

Shortly afterward, officers responded to eggs being thrown at vehicles along Ridge Road, which authorities warned could have dangerously impaired drivers’ visibility.

In another alarming event, police said teens fled recklessly in vehicles, one of which resulted in a hit-and-run crash that is now under investigation.

Police: Behavior “Entirely Unacceptable”

Officials stressed that while Homecoming week is meant to celebrate tradition and school pride, reckless and destructive behavior threatens both public safety and community trust.

“These actions are entirely unacceptable,” the department said in a statement, adding that such behavior puts drivers, pedestrians, and students at risk.

Parents Urged to Talk With Teens

Authorities are encouraging parents to remind their children that trespassing, property damage, and disturbing the peace will not be tolerated during Homecoming celebrations.

“Your safety and the safety of others is paramount,” police emphasized, calling on families to help keep events positive and free from incidents that could tarnish the spirit of the week.

The Channahon Police Department says officers will maintain an active presence throughout MCHS Homecoming festivities, aiming to ensure a safe and respectful environment for students, families, and the broader community.
