Wind Chills in Indianapolis Expected to Plunge to Single Digits as Coldest Stretch of Season Hits Early Week

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA — Central Indiana is bracing for its coldest stretch of the season as wind chills are expected to plunge into the single digits Monday night through early Wednesday. According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, bitter winds and an incoming Arctic air mass will combine to make temperatures feel as low as 5°F across cities including Kokomo, Lafayette, and Muncie.

The cold snap follows a windy Sunday, with gusts ranging between 30–35 mph before slowly easing into Monday morning.

NWS: Wind Chills Could Reach 5–10°F Overnight Monday Into Wednesday

Forecasters say the colder air will settle in late Monday, sending wind chills into the 5–15°F range overnight. Indianapolis is expected to experience wind chills between 6°F and 10°F at times, especially during the early morning hours Tuesday and Wednesday.

Communities north of the city — including Muncie and Kokomo — are likely to face the sharpest wind chills as persistent breezes keep the cold air locked in place.

Another Arctic surge later in the week remains possible, forecasters say.
