Wisconsin Deputies Hunt Armed Felon After Gunfire Erupts Outside Trevor Home Following Violent Confrontation
TREVOR, WISCONSIN – Deputies in Kenosha County are urgently searching for a 29-year-old armed felon accused of firing a gunshot at a home late Sunday night, after allegedly holding another person at gunpoint during a heated dispute.
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office said the incident unfolded around 11:43 p.m. on November 16 in the 10400 block of 268th Avenue, prompting a large law-enforcement response after residents reported gunfire.
Deputies Say Argument Escalated to Armed Threat
Investigators learned that Jake Wenzel, the suspect now being sought, had been involved in an argument with the victim earlier in the night. Moments later, a gunshot was heard near the victim’s house.
The victim returned home shortly after the argument, parking in the driveway before running into the back of the home for safety. According to deputies, Wenzel then arrived in a 2024 silver Dodge Ram, walked up to the victim’s vehicle, and pointed a firearm at it while ordering the victim to come outside.
The victim’s sister — the homeowner — confronted Wenzel and told him to leave immediately.
Instead, deputies say Wenzel turned toward the home and fired a gunshot before speeding away in his truck.
Suspect’s Truck Found Abandoned Hours Later
Around 6 a.m., deputies located the suspect’s abandoned truck, but Wenzel was gone. Authorities warn that he is armed, dangerous, and actively evading capture.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that Wenzel has an extensive criminal history, including past convictions for:
- Felon in possession of a firearm
- Possession with intent to distribute amphetamines
- Felony attempted theft (party to a crime)
He is currently out on a $7,500 bond related to terroristic threats and also has multiple active felony arrest warrants.
Residents are urged not to approach Wenzel under any circumstances.
Deputies Asking Public for Immediate Leads
Anyone with information on Wenzel’s whereabouts should immediately contact the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office at (262) 605-5100.
Anonymous tips may help narrow down his location as investigators continue canvassing the area and collecting surveillance footage.
Community Response and Ongoing Investigation
Authorities say the shooting appears to be directly tied to the earlier confrontation and does not pose a danger to the wider public — unless Wenzel remains free.
Detectives are working through the night to chase down leads, review witness statements, and determine whether anyone may have assisted his escape.
More details are expected as the investigation progresses.
