Wisconsin Man Arrested After Stealing Over $10K in Property and Taking It to Scrapyard

MONONA, WI — A 33-year-old Wisconsin man has been arrested after authorities say he broke into a business, stole more than $10,000 worth of property, and then attempted to take the stolen items to a scrapyard.

Burglary Reported in Monona

The Monona Police Department said officers were called around 11:39 a.m. on September 2 to a commercial burglary. A manager reported that a shed had been broken into sometime over the weekend, with thousands of dollars’ worth of property stolen.

Investigators quickly identified a suspect connected to the case.

Suspect Arrested and Confession

On September 9 at 9:30 a.m., a Dane County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a vehicle driven by the suspect, identified as Colton Reindahl, 33, of Marshall.

Reindahl already had an active arrest warrant. After being taken into custody, he reportedly admitted that the stolen property had been brought to a scrapyard to assess its metal value.

Charges and Criminal History

Reindahl now faces multiple charges, including:

  • Outstanding probation/parole warrant
  • Party to a Crime – Burglary
  • Party to a Crime – Theft of movable property

Police also noted that Reindahl was supposed to be serving a sentence for previous crimes at the time of the burglary. He has a lengthy criminal history in Dane County, including convictions for identity theft, drug offenses, and property theft.

In addition, 36-year-old Andrew Sugden has been referred for charges as a party to the crime of burglary and theft of movable property.

The case underscores the financial impact of property crimes on local businesses and highlights the repeated challenges law enforcement faces when dealing with offenders who have long-standing criminal records.
