Wisconsin Teen Identified as Victim in Fatal Marengo Car Crash

MARENGO, ILLINOIS — Authorities have identified the 19-year-old Wisconsin woman who died in a single-vehicle crash in Marengo earlier this week. The McHenry County Coroner’s Office confirmed that the victim was Marley Galvan, of Janesville, Wisconsin.

Police said the crash occurred on Monday near 22820 River Road after Galvan’s vehicle failed to navigate a curve, veered off the road, and collided with a post and a tree.

Passenger Critically Injured

Investigators reported that Galvan had one passenger in the car at the time of the accident. The passenger was rushed to Javon Bea Hospital in critical condition, though no further updates on their status have been released.

Emergency responders from the Marengo Police Department, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, and Marengo Fire District assisted at the scene.

“The vehicle appeared to have lost control after misjudging a curve,” police said, adding that speed and road conditions remain under investigation.

Ongoing Investigation and Pending Reports

An autopsy was conducted, but officials said there were no immediate findings regarding the cause of death. Toxicology results are still pending.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including possible contributing factors such as weather, visibility, and driver error.

Galvan, described by friends online as “a bright and kind young woman,” was a 2024 high school graduate who had recently moved to Wisconsin for work and college opportunities.

As investigators work to determine the full cause of the accident, the McHenry County Coroner’s Office and Sheriff’s Office are urging drivers to exercise caution on rural roads, particularly along River Road, known for its sharp curves.
