Wisconsin Woman Charged After Surveillance Video Shows Thanksgiving Shooting Outside Gurnee Hotel
GURNEE, ILLINOIS — A Wisconsin woman is facing multiple felony charges after police say surveillance footage captured her firing several shots during a Thanksgiving night domestic dispute outside a north suburban hotel. The shooting occurred near Grand Avenue and Interstate 94, according to the Gurnee Police Department.
Officers were not notified until the following day, when police received information about a possible shooting in the hotel driveway and immediately began reviewing surveillance video.
Video Shows Woman Exiting Van and Firing Several Rounds
Investigators say a dark-colored van pulled up to the hotel entrance at approximately 9:44 p.m. Thursday. A man got out of the vehicle, followed moments later by a woman holding a handgun.
Surveillance footage appears to show the woman firing several shots, striking the man once in the leg. After the shooting, police say the man got back into the van with the suspected shooter, and the pair drove away.
Domestic Dispute Led to Hotel Stop Before Shooting
Detectives later learned the incident stemmed from an ongoing domestic dispute that began earlier in a neighboring town. The couple stopped at the hotel during their argument, where the shooting took place, before driving together to a hospital so the man could receive treatment for his gunshot wound.
Gurnee police confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public, calling the event isolated and connected solely to the domestic situation.
