Woman Gunned Down in Louisville’s Russell Neighborhood; Homicide Detectives Investigating

LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY — A woman was shot and killed late Friday night in Louisville’s Russell neighborhood, triggering a homicide investigation and renewed calls for community assistance. The shooting occurred shortly after 10 p.m., when police responded to gunfire detected through ShotSpotter technology on West Madison Street.

Officers Find Woman Shot After ShotSpotter Alerts Police

The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) said officers arrived in the 2600 block of West Madison Street after receiving a ShotSpotter notification reporting gunfire in the area. When officers reached the scene, they discovered a woman suffering from serious gunshot wounds.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite emergency efforts, she later died.

LMPD stated:

“Officers located a female victim who had been shot. She was transported to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.”

Her name has not yet been released pending family notification.

No Arrests at This Time as Homicide Unit Takes Over

As of Saturday, no arrests have been made in connection with the deadly shooting. The LMPD Homicide Unit is now leading the investigation as detectives work to determine what led to the gunfire and whether the shooting was targeted or random.

Investigators remain in the area reviewing evidence and interviewing potential witnesses. Police have not disclosed any information about possible suspects or motives.

LMPD is urging residents who live or work near the shooting scene to check home security cameras, doorbell cameras, and surveillance systems for any unusual activity from around 10 p.m. Friday night.

Police also encourage anyone with information to call the department’s anonymous tip line at 502-574-5673.

Investigators said:

“Anyone with footage or information is encouraged to come forward. Even small details can assist our investigation.”
