17-Year-Old Charged With Murder of 81-Year-Old Lexington Man Found Shot in His Home

LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY — A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of 81-year-old Thomas Kriegel, who was found dead inside his home on Lakebow Court last Friday afternoon, according to Lexington Police.

Authorities confirmed that the suspect was arrested on Wednesday, October 29, and remains in custody at a juvenile detention center in Warren County as the investigation continues.

Victim Found Fatally Shot Inside His Home

Police were called to the Lakebow Court residence on Friday, October 24, after family members and neighbors requested a welfare check. Responding officers discovered Kriegel dead inside his home.

The Fayette County Coroner’s Office determined that Kriegel died from a single gunshot wound. Investigators have not yet released information about the suspected motive or how the teen knew the victim, if at all.

Authorities have also not disclosed whether the weapon used in the crime has been recovered.

The quiet Lakebow Court neighborhood was shaken by the news of Kriegel’s death. Friends and neighbors described him as a kind, gentle man who had lived in the area for years.
