‘I Swear’ singer John Michael Montgomery sets date for farewell concert

LEXINGTON, KY — Country music legend John Michael Montgomery, best known for ’90s classics like “I Swear” and “Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident),” has officially announced his final concert — bringing his decades-long career to a close in his home state of Kentucky.
Set for Friday, December 12, the farewell show titled “The Road Home: The Final Concert” will take place at Rupp Arena, home of University of Kentucky basketball.
A Family Affair for the Final Farewell
Montgomery, 60, shared the news via Instagram, saying, “It’s time to bring it all back home for the last show… I hope you will join me and some very special guests!”
That guest list is a country music family affair:
- Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry (John’s brother)
- Rising star Walker Montgomery (his son)
- And Travis Denning, his son-in-law and an emerging Nashville talent
“It’s going to be a fun night celebrating with family and ending this ride in a big way,” Montgomery added in a press release.
From Kentucky Roots to Country Stardom
Since his breakout in the early ’90s with the hit “Life’s A Dance,” Montgomery has become a fixture in country music. His smooth baritone has powered 36 hit singles, 7 of which hit No. 1, and 11 studio albums — many achieving Multi-Platinum and Gold RIAA certifications.
Fans know him for ballads like:
- “I Swear”
- “I Love the Way You Love Me”
- “I Can Love You Like That”
He’s also taken home major awards, including the CMA Horizon Award, ACM’s Top New Vocalist, and even a Grammy nomination, solidifying his place in country music history.
Looking Ahead: Grandkids and Retirement
Earlier this year, Montgomery announced 2025 would mark his final touring season. In a recent Instagram post, he proudly posed with his first grandchild, Charlotte, hinting at his next chapter — family time and life offstage.
Before his final Kentucky concert, he’s scheduled to perform in Senatobia, Mississippi at the Heindl Center for the Performing Arts on October 3 at 7:30 p.m. Fans can find his full tour schedule and final tickets via his official site.
