Illinois Declares BTS Day for Chicago Concerts as the K-Pop Group Returns to Soldier Field for First Show There in Seven Years and Three Months
CHICAGO, IL — Illinois has set aside Aug. 27 and 28 as BTS Day in Illinois to match the K-pop group’s concerts at Soldier Field in Chicago. The proclamation comes from Gov. JB Pritzker and was announced by BTS’ agency on Monday.
The honor lands just as BTS begins its Arirang world tour stop in the city. It also gives fans in the BTS ARMY a state-level nod before the stadium shows, which are drawing attention well beyond the usual concert calendar.
Why Illinois singled out BTS
Pritzker said in his proclamation that BTS has crossed international borders while using its platform to promote mental health awareness, self-love and global philanthropy. He added that the group’s message lines up with Illinois civic values and has inspired fans to take part in community service and charitable giving.
The governor also urged residents to embrace the unifying force of music, culture and community advocacy. That framing turns the concerts into more than a pair of arena dates; it presents them as a public celebration of the influence BTS has built through pop music and fan engagement.
For local fans, the declaration gives the Chicago shows a civic spotlight that fits BTS’ huge North American profile. It also underscores how much weight the group carries in U.S. cities that want to welcome its concerts with something more memorable than a standard mayors’ greeting.
Soldier Field gets another BTS milestone
The Chicago concerts will be BTS’ first at Soldier Field in seven years and three months. The group first became the first K-pop act to stage a standalone concert there in May 2019, during its Love Yourself: Speak Yourself world tour.
That earlier performance helped establish Soldier Field as a landmark venue in the band’s U.S. touring history. Now BTS is returning to the same stadium after a long gap, and the timing makes the Chicago stop a notable marker for fans who have followed the group’s live career from one era to the next.
Illinois is not the only place to salute the tour. Other North American cities have also marked BTS dates with special recognition, showing how the group’s concerts can become civic events as much as entertainment stops.
Other cities have already turned BTS concerts into civic events
Toronto declared the weekend of BTS’ concerts as BTS Weekend and temporarily renamed part of a road BTS Boulevard. In Maryland, Gov. Wes Moore posted a video with Korean subtitles to welcome the group ahead of its Baltimore concert.
El Paso County, Texas, went further by proclaiming the concert period El Paso BTS Weekend and presenting the members with its Estimado Amigo, or Dear Friend, award. Those gestures show a pattern: BTS tour dates have become moments for cities to spotlight local enthusiasm and connect with the massive fan base that follows the group across North America.
For Chicago, Illinois’ proclamation adds another layer to the comeback at Soldier Field. It gives the concerts a public frame that matches the scale of the occasion and the long wait since BTS last headlined the venue.
