The Big Red One Band to Perform Free Community Concert in Marysville

MARYSVILLE, KS – The sounds of military pageantry and timeless American music will echo through the Marysville High School Auditorium when the 1st Infantry Division Band, widely known as the Big Red One Band, performs a free community concert on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at 7 p.m. The event, presented by the Marshall County Arts Cooperative (MCAC), offers residents an opportunity to enjoy world-class musicianship while honoring the service of U.S. Army members.

A Musical Ambassador of the U.S. Army

Based at Fort Riley, Kansas, the 38-member Big Red One Band serves as the official musical ambassador of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division. Known for its versatility and professionalism, the ensemble performs at both military ceremonies and public community events across the Midwest.

Their repertoire spans light overtures, patriotic marches, Broadway classics, and big band standards from the 1940s and 1950s, appealing to audiences of all ages. This balance of patriotic pride and popular favorites makes their performances both entertaining and meaningful.

Strengthening Community Connections

The Big Red One Band’s mission extends beyond music. By performing in civilian communities, the ensemble strengthens ties between the U.S. Army and the public. Their appearances at events such as K-State/Fort Riley Day at Wagner Field, Veterans Salute programs in Junction City, the Veterans Day Parade in Manhattan, and various holiday concerts across the region reflect their ongoing commitment to community engagement.

“This is an opportunity for our community to experience world-class performance while recognizing the men and women who serve,” said Colette Ottens, board member of the Marshall County Arts Cooperative. Her words capture the dual purpose of the concert: to entertain and to honor.
