CHICAGO the Musical Returns to Popejoy Hall in Albuquerque This October

ALBUQUERQUE, NM — The razzle-dazzle of Broadway is coming back to New Mexico this fall, as the international smash hit CHICAGO the Musical arrives at Popejoy Hall in October 2025. Part of the Popejoy Presents 2025–26 season, the production will bring the iconic songs, dazzling choreography, and satirical bite that has made Chicago Broadway’s longest-running American musical.
A Legendary Broadway Classic
With a book by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Ebb, Chicago has been thrilling audiences for decades. The show is the winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival, as well as two Olivier Awards and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Recording. Seen in 36 countries by more than 33 million people worldwide, the production continues to captivate new generations.
Set against the glitz and corruption of the 1920s, the story follows Roxie Hart, a housewife and nightclub dancer who murders her lover. To escape conviction, she manipulates both the press and the public while clashing with fellow inmate Velma Kelly. With sharp satire, unforgettable songs like “All That Jazz” and “Cell Block Tango”, and Fosse-inspired dance, the musical still feels strikingly relevant today.
Creative Direction and Design
The Albuquerque engagement will be directed by David Hyslop with choreography by Gregory Butler, based on the original direction by Tony Award-winner Walter Bobbie and original choreography by Tony Award-winner Ann Reinking.
The design team features Broadway heavyweights including John Lee Beatty (set design), William Ivey Long (costume design), Ken Billington (lighting design), and Scott Lehrer (sound design). Robert Billig serves as supervising music director, with casting by ARC.
This world-class team ensures that audiences at Popejoy Hall will experience the authentic sparkle and bite of the legendary Broadway production.
