Naperville Man Charged After Warrenville Carjacking and Gas Station Attack

NAPERVILLE, ILLINOIS – A Naperville man is facing a long list of felony charges after police say he stole a car at gunpoint in Warrenville and days later attacked a woman at a Naperville gas station.
Warrenville Carjacking on Diehl Road
Authorities say the first incident happened on August 20 when 63-year-old Archie Banks, of the 1600 block of Westminster Drive in Naperville, approached a woman parked in her car on Diehl Road.
According to prosecutors, Banks opened the car door, grabbed the victim’s phone, and pointed a pistol at her head, threatening to kill her if she resisted. He then forced the woman to drive to Bond Street before ordering her out of the car and fleeing with the vehicle.
Police later found the car abandoned near the same location where the woman had originally been parked.
Violent Attack at Naperville BP Station
Just five days later, on August 25, Naperville police responded to a call at the BP station on Brookdale Road. Investigators say Banks approached another woman in her parked car, opened her door, and struck her in the head five times with a handgun, shouting at her to get out of the vehicle.
The victim screamed, prompting Banks to flee on foot. Officers arrested him shortly afterward, discovering a blue plastic bag containing rope, duct tape, and gloves, along with a knife and a loaded 9mm handgun hidden nearby.
Multiple Felony Charges and Court Proceedings
Banks now faces charges including:
- Armed Violence
- Attempted Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking with a Firearm
- Aggravated Battery
- Aggravated Kidnapping While Armed with a Firearm
- Armed Robbery with a Firearm
- Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking with a Firearm
- Aggravated Unlawful Restraint
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin praised the quick work of police and emphasized the seriousness of the crimes.
“The allegations, that Mr. Banks kidnapped and carjacked a woman at gunpoint and five days later pistol-whipped and attempted to carjack a second woman at gunpoint, have no place in civilized society,” Berlin said. “This type of brazen behavior affects not just the involved victims, but also casts a shadow of fear across the entire community.”
Banks is currently being held at the DuPage County Jail and has been denied pre-trial release. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 22.
