Wisconsin Man Arrested After Police Chase, Facing Sixth OWI Charge

MONONA, WISCONSIN — A 36-year-old man with an extensive criminal history was arrested Thursday night after allegedly attempting to flee police during a traffic stop, leading to his sixth OWI charge.
Police identified the driver as Tyler Miller of Madison, who was spotted unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle stopped in traffic on Highway 51. Officers reported the vehicle remained stationary at a green light, prompting them to intervene.
Pursuit on Highway 51
According to the Monona Police Department, officers ordered Miller to exit the vehicle after waking him. Instead, he acknowledged the officers and fled the scene, heading southbound on Highway 51 before turning around and driving at highway speeds.
Law enforcement deployed a tire deflation device and later executed a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle after multiple evasive attempts by Miller.
When the car finally came to a halt, Miller refused to comply with commands, forcing officers to use shields to physically remove him from the vehicle. Authorities discovered evidence of alcohol and illegal drug use inside.
Multiple Felony Charges Filed
Police confirmed Miller faces a long list of charges, including:
- 6th Offense Felony OWI
- Felony Attempted Eluding
- Operating While Revoked
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Probation Violation
Officials also noted Miller was already serving probation for multiple felony convictions in Dane County at the time of his arrest.
Community Safety Concerns
The arrest highlights ongoing concerns about repeat OWI offenders on Wisconsin roadways. Authorities emphasized that Miller’s history and refusal to comply underscore the dangers impaired drivers pose to both the public and law enforcement.
Miller remains in custody as the case proceeds through the Dane County court system.
