East Texas Flood Watch: Heavy Rain May Bring Up to 5 Inches Through Wednesday

TYLER, Texas – Heavy rain is bringing an elevated flood threat across East Texas, with forecasters warning that totals could reach up to 5 inches by Wednesday morning. Authorities are urging residents to take precautions as travel conditions worsen overnight.
Rain Totals Could Cause Flash Flooding
The National Weather Service in Fort Worth projects rainfall of 2 to 4 inches across much of the region, with isolated locations potentially exceeding 5 inches. Even at the lower range, officials caution that rapid accumulation could trigger flash flooding in low-lying areas, streams, and roadways.
Cities at greater risk include Palestine, Canton, and communities east of Waco, where forecasters expect some of the heaviest rainfall. Travel could become hazardous after dark, with flooded roads difficult to spot until it’s too late.
Officials Urge Safety on the Roads
Authorities are reminding drivers to avoid crossing flooded roadways, noting that even shallow moving water can be life-threatening. Motorists are encouraged to check alternate routes in advance and allow extra travel time during the storm’s peak.
While forecasters rate the overall probability of 5-inch rainfall as low to medium, the 2–4 inch totals that are more likely remain capable of producing dangerous flooding conditions.
Conditions to Improve Midweek
The flood threat is expected to continue through Wednesday morning before conditions gradually improve later in the day. Until then, residents should remain cautious and stay informed of weather updates as the system moves through the region.
