RIVERTON, Wyo. — Residents across western and central Wyoming are being advised to prepare for isolated thunderstorms beginning late Friday and potentially lasting through much of next week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton.

The unsettled weather may bring lightning, gusty winds, and brief downpours, particularly in southern and western counties.

Forecast Timeline and Affected Areas

Storm activity is expected to be most likely in southwest Wyoming Friday afternoon and evening, before spreading across western and southern counties from Sunday through midweek.

Saturday will remain mostly sunny due to dry air statewide, but clouds and instability are forecast to return by late Sunday.

Communities including Rock Springs, Lander, and Casper could experience travel delays, particularly along major highways such as I-80 and U.S. 287, if storms intensify.

Officials are warning residents and visitors to avoid outdoor recreation in mountain and valley areas during peak storm hours.

Authorities also encourage securing outdoor furniture, equipment, and loose items that could be moved by sudden gusts of wind.

Despite storm risks, temperatures will remain warm, with daytime highs in the upper 70s and low 80s through Tuesday. Overnight lows will range in the mid-40s.
