Texas Father Charged With Capital Murder After Slamming 7-Week-Old Baby Against Crib, Police Say

MESQUITE, Texas — A 22-year-old father is behind bars on capital murder charges after police say he beat his 7-week-old baby to death by slamming him against a crib, causing devastating injuries that doctors ruled were intentional.

Baby Found Unconscious

On September 18, Mesquite police were dispatched to a home on the 5800 block of Northwest Drive after receiving a call about an unconscious infant who was not breathing.

Responding officers and firefighters from the Mesquite Fire Department performed life-saving measures, and the baby was rushed to a nearby hospital. Doctors discovered the infant had multiple traumatic injuries, including:

  • A skull fracture
  • Brain swelling and bleeding
  • Multiple rib fractures in different stages of healing

Confession of Abuse

At first, the father, Jordan Greer, denied knowing how the baby was injured. But under questioning, police say he confessed to violently shaking the infant and slamming his head against the crib on more than one occasion.

He allegedly admitted to using excessive force and even expressed fear during the interview that he had killed his own child.

Death and Capital Murder Charge

Five days after the initial emergency call, the baby succumbed to his injuries. By September 22, investigators said they had sufficient evidence to charge Greer with capital murder.

A medical evaluation confirmed the injuries were non-accidental and inflicted across at least two separate incidents of violence.

Greer was booked into the Dallas County Jail with no bond, jail records show.

The tragic case has shocked the Mesquite community, highlighting the most extreme consequences of child abuse. For more Texas crime updates and community safety coverage, follow ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
