Wisconsin Couple Found Dead in Parked Car on Quiet Illinois Street — Gun Discovered Inside, Police Say

HARVARD, ILLINOIS — A late-night discovery in a quiet suburban neighborhood has left investigators searching for answers after a Wisconsin man and woman were found dead inside a parked car in Harvard, Illinois, police confirmed Monday.

According to the Harvard Police Department, an officer patrolling the 700 block of North Division Street around 11:52 p.m. noticed a vehicle parked on the roadside with its hazard lights flashing. When the officer approached, they found two people unresponsive inside the car — a 29-year-old woman in the driver’s seat and a 30-year-old man in the passenger seat.

Both victims were later confirmed to be from Sharon, Wisconsin, located about 15 miles north of Harvard.

Gun Found in Car as Police Investigate Fatal Shooting

Authorities reported that both victims suffered gunshot wounds, and a firearm was recovered inside the vehicle. While police have not yet confirmed whether the deaths were the result of a murder-suicide or another type of incident, investigators are treating the discovery as an active investigation.

The McHenry County Major Investigative Assistance Team (MIAT) has joined local police to handle forensic evidence and scene reconstruction. Officials said the gun was located between the two victims, but have not released details on who may have fired it.

A spokesperson for the Harvard Police Department noted that no witnesses have come forward yet, and no signs of struggle or forced entry were observed at the scene.

“It’s still early in the investigation,” officials said. “We’re working closely with the coroner’s office to determine the exact sequence of events.”

Quiet Town Shaken by Discovery

Residents in the area told investigators they were stunned to see flashing police lights late at night on what’s normally a peaceful stretch of North Division Street.

“We heard sirens and saw officers block off the road,” one neighbor said. “It’s scary — things like this don’t happen here.”

Police confirmed that the car remained parked at the same location for several hours before the discovery, suggesting that the shooting may have occurred earlier in the evening.

The McHenry County Coroner’s Office is expected to perform autopsies to confirm cause and manner of death. The victims’ identities have not been released pending family notification.

Investigation Continues

Authorities said no suspects are being sought at this time but emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Harvard Police Department or the McHenry County Major Investigative Assistance Team.
