Arizona Man Who FaceTimed His Ex While Lying Next to Girlfriend’s Bloody Body Learns His Fate

MARANA, ARIZONA — An Arizona man who shot his girlfriend and her dog before FaceTiming his ex-girlfriend to brag about the killings has been sentenced to 16 years in prison, according to court records and local reports.

30-year-old Taton Dorfman was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of 30-year-old Hannah Rogers, who was found dead inside her home on July 28, 2024. Dorfman also admitted to killing Rogers’ dog during the same violent outburst.

‘I Killed Her! I Did It!’ — The FaceTime Call That Shocked Police

After the murder, Dorfman reportedly called his ex-girlfriend on FaceTime, showing her the gruesome aftermath.

“I killed her! I did it!” he allegedly shouted, grinning as he lay next to Rogers’ body, blood visible around her head, according to Tucson’s KGUN-TV.

The ex-girlfriend quickly took screenshots of the call and contacted police, setting off an urgent welfare check at Rogers’ home on West Mosquito Drive in Marana.

When officers arrived around 10:30 p.m., Dorfman refused to come out, barricading himself inside for five hours before being arrested.

When police finally entered, they found Rogers dead from a gunshot wound to the head and her dog fatally shot nearby. Dorfman was discovered with blood on his face and hands, but no injuries.

Inside the Crime Scene: ‘A House of Chaos’

Police later reported finding drug paraphernalia and alcohol scattered throughout the home, suggesting that Dorfman had been under the influence at the time of the killings.

Officers described the interior as chaotic and heavily disturbed, with signs of a struggle before the fatal gunfire.

The tragic discovery left family and friends of Rogers devastated. A GoFundMe created in her memory called her a “vibrant, kind, and creative soul” who “lit up every room she walked into.”

Murder Charge Reduced, Sentence Capped at 16 Years

Dorfman was initially charged with first-degree murder, but prosecutors later agreed to reduce the charge to second-degree murder as part of a plea deal.

At sentencing, the judge said he was bound by Arizona law to impose a maximum of 16 years under the circumstances of the plea.

He was also sentenced to time served on a related animal cruelty charge for killing Rogers’ dog.

Community Outrage Over Lenient Sentence

The case has drawn strong reactions from the Marana community, with many expressing frustration over what they view as an insufficient sentence for such a violent crime.

“Sixteen years for killing two living beings and bragging about it — that’s a slap in the face to justice,” one commenter wrote on social media.

Family members have said they plan to continue honoring Rogers’ memory through advocacy for domestic violence awareness.
