Milwaukee Police Offer $25,000 Reward for Suspect Who Allegedly Shot at Children, Killing 16-Year-Old Boy ‘for No Reason’
MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN — Police are offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of 37-year-old Martell Haire, a homicide suspect accused of opening fire on a group of children “for no reason,” killing a 16-year-old boy and injuring others in Milwaukee.
According to a criminal complaint shared by the Milwaukee Police Department, the shooting occurred on October 20, 2025, near West Hampton Avenue, where officers responded to reports of multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Victim Found Unresponsive at Scene
Responding officers discovered three women running toward the scene, shouting that a child had been shot. Moments later, a sedan arrived carrying the victims — including the 16-year-old boy, who was found unresponsive with gunshot wounds to the head and neck.
Paramedics pronounced the teen dead at the scene. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the fatal injuries were caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
A witness told police that Haire had been involved in a verbal argument inside the home and was asked to leave. Instead, he allegedly returned moments later, grabbed a handgun, and began firing at three children who were inside the kitchen.
Charges Filed in the Case
Haire faces several felony charges, including:
- First-Degree Reckless Homicide (Use of a Dangerous Weapon) — Up to 60 years in prison
- Two Counts of First-Degree Reckless Injury (Use of a Dangerous Weapon) — Up to 25 years per count and/or $100,000 in fines
- First-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety (Use of a Dangerous Weapon) — Up to 12.5 years in prison and/or $25,000 in fines
- Possession of a Firearm by a Felon — Up to 10 years in prison and/or $25,000 in fines
Authorities said one of the children survived by pretending to be dead after being shot, fearing Haire would continue firing if they moved. Surveillance audio captured 10 to 12 gunshots and footage of a suspect fleeing the scene around 9 p.m.

Haire’s current whereabouts remain unknown, and police have intensified their search with support from federal and state agencies.
