APPLETON, WISCONSIN — A 21-year-old Little Chute woman is facing multiple felony charges after she allegedly ran over an Appleton police officer while officers were responding to a parking lot fight early Saturday morning. The incident unfolded around 2:40 a.m. near South Walnut and West Lawrence Street, leaving one officer injured and prompting a brief police pursuit.

According to the Appleton Police Department, officers arrived to break up an argument happening in a parking lot. As they approached the suspect — later identified as Katrina Kitzman, 21 — she was sitting behind the wheel of a parked vehicle.

Police say Kitzman suddenly accelerated toward a group of people nearby, putting both bystanders and officers at immediate risk.

Investigators said the woman then turned the vehicle directly toward two officers. One officer was unable to move out of the way and was struck.

After running over the officer, Kitzman fled the scene in her vehicle. Police initiated a short pursuit, ultimately stopping and arresting her before she could travel far from the area.

Officers confirmed she was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Outagamie County Jail.

Authorities say she appeared to be operating while intoxicated at the time of the incident.
