Texas Man Allegedly Planned to Kill Child’s Mother’s New Boyfriend’s Mom but Needed Friends to Drive Him, Deputies Say
WACO, TX – A Texas man’s alleged murder plot fell apart in astonishing fashion after authorities say he tried to recruit his friends for a ride because he needed gas money to carry out the killing. The intended target? The mother of his child’s new boyfriend — a plan investigators say he openly bragged about over text messages.
According to McLennan County authorities, the suspect’s own words made his intentions clear: he wanted to “smoke” the woman, and he needed help getting there.
Authorities Say the Suspect Asked Friends for a Ride to Commit Murder
Deputies say 19-year-old Hugo Carlin had a clear goal but no transportation.
When texting 22-year-old Elian Araujo, he reportedly spelled it out:
“I need gas money bro.”
“I’m not playing… I’m going to smoke her.”
Investigators say Carlin wanted to confront the mother of his child’s mother’s new boyfriend — a bizarre connection that only fueled the shock surrounding the case.
Officials say Araujo agreed to pick him up, bringing along several others, including 21-year-old Misael Jiminez and a minor. The group traveled through Waco in Araujo’s vehicle, unaware they were minutes from being pulled over.
Traffic Stop Reveals Guns Everywhere, Deputies Say
Around the intersection of Franklin Avenue and South 5th Street, a Waco officer pulled the car over for an alleged traffic violation.
What the officer saw inside stunned him.
Authorities say the backseat passengers were surrounded by five firearms, including:
- Two guns tucked into a minor’s waistband
- Additional weapons scattered between passengers
- Carlin holding a semiautomatic rifle loaded with high-capacity, “very deadly ammunition”
Backup officers rushed in, and the scene quickly turned into a major arrest operation.
Text Messages Revealed the Alleged Murder Plan
Once the group was detained, deputies say one of the passengers immediately cooperated — and confirmed that Carlin had been talking about confronting and possibly killing the woman tied to his child’s mother’s new relationship.
The text messages recovered by investigators matched the story perfectly.
“The thread supports the story… that Hugo Carlin was looking for a ride or gas money to assist in the commission of murder,” the arrest affidavit states.
Authorities say Carlin wasn’t hiding his intentions — he practically broadcasted them.
Multiple Arrests Made; All Held on Heavy Bail
Carlin is charged with soliciting someone to commit murder and is being held on $250,000 bail.
Both Araujo and Jiminez have been charged with criminal conspiracy to commit aggravated assault and are also being held on $250,000 bail each.
One man in the vehicle was not charged after working with investigators.
Deputies called the situation extremely dangerous, noting the number of guns and ammunition combined with a clearly stated plan to kill.
