Wisconsin Police Investigate Restroom Fire Near Playground After Good Samaritan Stops Blaze

ANTIGO, WISCONSIN – Police in northern Wisconsin are investigating a restroom fire near a popular playground, after a good Samaritan rushed in and helped extinguish the flames before they spread further.

The incident happened on November 2 at the Peaceful Valley Warming House near Castle Park, an area regularly used by families and children.

Good Samaritan Stops Fire Before Major Damage

Authorities say officers responded to a report of a fire inside the men’s restroom, where part of the shelter building had already begun to burn.
A passerby noticed smoke and managed to put out the flames, preventing the structure from suffering more severe damage.

Even with the quick action, police confirmed that the building and its contents still sustained noticeable fire damage.

Cause of Fire Unknown as Investigators Search for Answers

Police say the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigators have not ruled out foul play.
The Antigo Police Department is actively reviewing the scene and gathering community tips.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Antigo Police Department or submit anonymous details through Langlade County Crime Stoppers.

Community Reaction and Safety Concerns

Local families expressed concern online, noting that the restroom is just steps away from Castle Park’s playground, where children frequently gather.

Authorities have not announced whether the shelter will remain open during the investigation, but crews are assessing the full extent of the damage.
