Former TV Anchor Accused of Stabbing Her Mother Claims She Did It ‘To Save Herself,’ Police Say
WICHITA, Kan. — A former television news anchor is behind bars after allegedly stabbing her 80-year-old mother to death, later telling authorities she did it “to save herself,” according to emergency dispatch notes released by local officials.
Police Say Angelynn Mock Was Found Covered in Blood Outside Home
Angelynn “Angie” Mock, a former Fox 2 St. Louis anchor and reporter, was arrested on Oct. 31 after Sedgwick County officers responded to what they described as a “reported cutting” at a Wichita residence.
Investigators say Mock was standing outside the home when officers arrived. Inside, they found her mother, Anita Avers, 80, unresponsive in a bed with multiple stab wounds.
Authorities immediately detained Mock, who now faces first-degree murder and is being held on $1 million bond, court records show.
Witness Says Mock Ran Up to Car Covered in Blood, Asking to Call 911
Alyssa Castro, a witness who spoke to KAKE, said she and her boyfriend were driving past the neighborhood when a frantic woman — later identified as Mock — approached the vehicle.
“There was a woman who approached our vehicle with like blood, like her hands were filled, her body was covered with blood, asking to call 911,” Castro said.
According to Castro, Mock grabbed her boyfriend’s phone and ran back into the home. Police later returned the device to the couple.
911 Dispatch Notes Suggest She Claimed Self-Defense
KAKE reported that emergency dispatchers relayed to responders that the caller — allegedly Mock — stated she “stabbed the mother to save herself.” That detail has raised questions about whether Mock may attempt to argue self-defense in the case.
Police have not confirmed what prompted the confrontation, and no additional details about what led up to the stabbing have been released.
Former News Career and Unanswered Legal Questions
According to her LinkedIn profile, Mock worked for Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015, serving as both a reporter and anchor.
As of now, public records do not indicate whether she has entered a plea or obtained legal representation. Prosecutors have not announced whether additional charges are being considered.
The Sedgwick County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting a full autopsy, and the investigation remains active.
