Alabama Driver Sentenced After Crash That Killed Pregnant Mom of Four and Injured Children
TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, AL — A 20-year prison sentence was handed down this week to an Alabama woman whose impaired driving caused a 2021 head-on collision that claimed the life of a pregnant mother of four and seriously injured her children.
The case centers on 36-year-old Audra Rogers, a well-known pageant titleholder and powerlifter who was expecting her fifth child at the time of the crash. Rogers was driving along U.S. Highway 43 with her four children when another driver crossed the center line, leading to a devastating collision.
A Family Forever Changed
Rogers’ children suffered serious injuries in the crash. Her teenage son Roman told the court that doctors discovered broken growth plates in both legs, injuries that stopped his growth.
“I will never grow anymore,” Roman said, describing the impact on his daily life and long recovery.
His brother Reed suffered a broken femur, concussion, and ruptured spleen.
Their grandmother told the court that losing Audra — a mother who worked nights so she could spend days with her children — left a void no one can fill.
Driver Admits Responsibility
Anna Dalrymple, now 40, pleaded guilty in September to reckless murder and first-degree assault.
A toxicology report revealed a mix of prescription medications in her system at the time of the crash, which prosecutors said impaired her driving.
Senior Assistant District Attorney Corey Seale told the court:
“She was high. She had no reason or business driving.”
Dalrymple tearfully apologized to the family, saying she wishes she could reverse what happened.
About the Victim: A Mother, Athlete, and Community Figure
According to her obituary, Rogers was Ms. Alabama Tourism 2021 and a three-time state record holder in powerlifting. More than any title, family members say she was dedicated to her children.
“Those kids were her whole life,” her mother said.
“She worked nights so they’d never have to go to day care.”
The Sentence
Dalrymple received:
- 20 years for reckless murder
- A five-year split sentence
- An additional 10-year sentence for first-degree assault
- A two-year split on the assault charge
- Split sentences to run consecutively
Other charges, including multiple assault and domestic-violence counts, were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
