Louisville Police Investigate After Man Shot in the Leg Near Baxter and Hepburn in the Highlands Early Sunday
LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY — A man is recovering after being shot in the leg early Sunday morning near the Highlands, according to Louisville Metro Police. Investigators are now piecing together what happened after the victim arrived at the hospital hours after officers responded to reports of gunfire.
Victim Arrives at Hospital With Gunshot Wound
LMPD spokesperson Aaron Ellis said the man showed up at a local hospital around 5 a.m., telling staff he had been shot. He was transported to UofL Hospital, where doctors determined his injuries were not life-threatening.
The victim reported that the shooting occurred near Baxter Avenue and Hepburn Avenue, a well-known intersection in Louisville’s Highlands neighborhood.

Police confirmed that officers had already responded to the area earlier that morning. At 3:34 a.m., LMPD received calls of shots fired near Baxter and Hepburn. When officers arrived, they found evidence consistent with a shooting — but no victim was present.
Detectives are now working to determine what led to the gunfire and whether additional witnesses or surveillance footage may help identify a suspect.
