Missing Virginia High School Football Coach Now Wanted on Child Porn Charges as U.S. Marshals Offer $5,000 Reward
APPALACHIA, VIRGINIA — Federal authorities are searching for a Virginia high school football coach who vanished just as state police were closing in on him over child pornography allegations. The U.S. Marshals Service has now issued a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of 46-year-old Travis Lee Turner, warning he may be armed.
Coach Disappears as Investigators Close In
Turner, the head football coach at Union High School in Wise County, was last seen on Nov. 20 near the Kentucky–Virginia state line. Virginia State Police were reportedly en route to his home for an active investigation when they learned he had already fled.
Authorities say Turner is facing at least 10 felony counts, including possession of child pornography and using a computer to solicit a minor. His disappearance prompted Kentucky State Police to join the search due to the close proximity of the border.
U.S. Marshals Issue Regional Alert
The U.S. Marshals Service released a wanted poster stating Turner may be armed and urging the public to use caution. In a post shared Monday on social platform X, the agency warned that Turner should not be approached.
Turner is described as:
- White male, 46
- Brown hair, brown eyes
- 6’3” tall
- Approximately 235 pounds
Investigators say he could be traveling through rural areas of southwest Virginia or eastern Kentucky. No confirmed sightings have been reported since the day he vanished.
Placed on Leave From Coaching Position
Union High School officials placed Turner on administrative leave immediately after the charges were filed. The school, located just south of the Kentucky border, released no further comment as the investigation remains active.
Public Asked for Tips as Search Expands
The U.S. Marshals Service is urging anyone with information to contact authorities immediately. Tips can be submitted through the Marshals Service app, directly to Virginia State Police, or by calling 911.
Turner remains considered dangerous due to the possibility he is armed.
