Dense Fog Advisory Issued for Northern Minnesota and Northwest Wisconsin Overnight

DULUTH, Minn. – Drivers across northern Minnesota and parts of northwest Wisconsin are being warned of dangerous travel conditions overnight as a dense fog advisory goes into effect. Forecasters say visibility could drop sharply from late Tuesday through Wednesday morning.

Timing and Impact of Fog Advisory

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, fog will begin forming around 9 p.m. Tuesday and persist through 11 a.m. Wednesday. The heaviest impacts are expected during the Wednesday morning commute between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m., when widespread dense fog may reduce visibility to less than a quarter mile.

Patchy fog will also extend into northwest Wisconsin, including the South Shore region, where conditions could quickly turn hazardous.

Safety Precautions for Morning Commuters

Meteorologists warn that rapid drops in visibility could make driving especially dangerous for morning commuters. To stay safe, drivers are advised to:

  • Slow down and allow extra travel time
  • Use low-beam headlights in foggy conditions
  • Keep extra distance between vehicles

The advisory covers a wide swath of northern Minnesota, from International Falls and Hibbing through Duluth and into the South Shore. Communities such as Grand Rapids, Brainerd, and Cloquet are expected to be impacted.

Conditions Improving by Late Morning

Fog is expected to gradually lift by late Wednesday morning, improving travel across the region. Until then, drivers are urged to remain cautious and prepare for delays on highways and local roads.

Officials note that these fog events are common in the early fall season, but the widespread coverage of this advisory means extra vigilance is necessary for anyone on the road overnight.

Residents across Minnesota and Wisconsin should stay aware of the advisory and adjust travel plans as needed. For more weather alerts and safety updates across the Midwest, keep following ChicagoMusicGuide.com.
